Two examples of the left hand drawing excercises that I start the day with – using your non-dominant hand is supposed to engange the right (creative) side of your brain. It certainly makes you concentrate on looking and you realise that your left hand seems to have decision making capabilities of its own. Those wobbly lines were not what I wanted to draw!
Operan
Uncategorized
The inspiration for this work was a photo of a storm cloud hovering over the archipelago outside Stockholm. However, as the work progressed the cloud turned into water and I decided to heighten the ‘wateriness’ with each layer of acrylic paint. This was done by adding very diluted paint and tilting the canvas to steer the colour over the surface.
Quick sketches of artists on the Louisiana Channel
UncategorizedI came across the Danish video channel Louisiana Channel (http://channel.louisiana.dk/) where artists talk about their work and what inspires them. Most interviews seems to have been recorded in their studios which adds to the ‘background’ so to speak. Have a look – they are very inspiring!
The images above are quick sketches where I tried to create a likeness whilst the artists were talking. Sometimes I had to play parts of the video several times before I put a stop to the excersise. And this is what they are – learning how to see and make my hand copy what I observe.
Flow
Uncategorized
I seem to not being able to change the organic, ‘dotty, and ‘flowing’ way of drawing. And yes, red is also a prevalent feature. With Flow I just had to stop – don’t think another spot of colour would improve the final work! Next piece – maybe all in grey …..
Wood
Uncategorized
The blurring of different life-forms continues in this work. I now see a wind flowing through the wood and its ‘other’/partner, moving branches and exposing an underlying being. There is what looks like a sunlit glade. Even if you have stared at and worked on a piece for an extended period you can surprise yourself looking at it later!
